Pediatric Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Repair
A cleft lip or cleft palate occurs as result of an incomplete formation of the upper lip or the roof of the mouth during the initial stages of fetal development. Dr. Morwood has performed countless cleft lip and cleft palate repair procedures and gained experience in working on extreme cases while participating in medical humanitarian missions to other countries.
Cleft lips and palates require specialized care. Dr. Morwood collaborates closely with families to create personalized treatment plans. Our comprehensive approach addresses functional challenges, speech development, and aesthetics.
Pediatric Congenital Hand Surgery
The exact cause of congenital hand deformities is not well understood, but genetics are thought to play a role. Dr. Morwood uses various surgical methods to address functional issues and improve aesthetics while addressing the following congenital hand defects:
Syndactyly – During corrective surgery to address two or more fingers that are fused together, careful attention is given to the reconstruction of the skin and any affected bones.
Polydactyly – Surgery to correct polydactyly, a condition characterized by the presence of an extra finger or thumb, often involves bone, nerve, and tissue work.
Clinodactyly – Surgery for this condition involving abnormal finger curvature may require removing and realigning bone to improve function and appearance.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Prominent or protruding ears are the most common reason for pediatric otoplasty, the condition does not affect a child’s hearing, but it can affect their self-esteem. The condition is caused by an underdeveloped cartilage fold that causes the outer rim of the ear to stick out. Corrective surgery for pediatric otoplasty involves repositioning and reshaping the cartilage of the upper ear to create a more natural and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
