In Dr. Morwood's Words:

It is perfectly reasonable, normal, natural, and healthy for a woman to want more for herself, and to desire an improvement in her vagina and the surrounding sensitive body parts.

This Procedure Treats:

  • Enlarged, asymmetrical, or elongated labia minora
  • Physical discomfort during exercise, intercourse, or with tight clothing
  • Hygiene difficulties related to excess labial tissue
  • Labial irritation caused by friction or chronic chafing
  • Aesthetic concerns about the appearance of the external genitalia

What is Labiaplasty?

The labiaplasty procedure reduces the length of the labia minora. It is the most commonly performed vaginal rejuvenation procedure and it can relieve symptoms women experience from twisting and tugging of the labia. Many women can feel bulky in pants or a bathing suit to the point of not wanting to wear any revealing clothing. Most patients who experienced symptoms from twisting and tugging of their labia generally find relief after surgery. According to multiple studies, labiaplasty is associated with a high satisfaction rate of over 90 percent. And an overwhelming majority of women report an increase in sexual confidence.

Who Is a Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Women opt for surgery for a variety of reasons, including pain from twisting and tugging of the labia when riding a bike or during intercourse, itching, irritation and self-consciousness. During your consultation, Dr. Morwood can ask about the areas you want to address and go over the details of the procedure. He will also go over your medical history to determine if you are a good candidate for labiaplasty in Monterey.

What Does a Labiaplasty Do?

The delicate procedure is customized for each patient. The goal is to reduce the labia minora so that they don’t hang below the hair-bearing labia majora. A labiaplasty may be performed to reduce asymmetry when one is longer than the other or, more commonly, to reduce the length of both labia so that there is no twisting, tugging, or falling out of a bathing suit. The most common type of labiaplasty is the trim procedure, in which the extra tissue is removed and sewn up directly.

Next in popularity is the wedge procedure, which maintains a natural border after a pie-shaped piece of tissue has been removed. Extra folds of the clitoral hood can also be reduced at the same time. Closure is usually done with absorbable sutures. The procedure normally takes about 45 minutes and may be performed under local or general anesthesia. A follow-up appointment is scheduled for 2 weeks and 2 months after the surgery.

Begin With a Consultation

The process begins with a detailed, sit-down consultation with Dr. Morwood in his office. During your labiaplasty surgery consultation be prepared to discuss:

  • Your goals
  • Medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments and smoking history
  • Current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drug use
  • Previous surgeries or treatments

Dr. Morwood will also:

  • Evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors
  • Discuss likely outcomes and any risks or potential complications

Recovering From a Labiaplasty

Most patients take a week off from work, during which they can reduce swelling and pain by icing with a cold pack. The patient can also lie with her bottom elevated to reduce swelling. Patients can resume wearing tampons or having sexual intercourse after four to six weeks. Trim labiaplasty generally allows for a quicker recovery. Sutures dissolve with time, and minimal, if any, pain medication is necessary afterward. While the most distorting swelling is gone by 6 weeks, residual swelling may take six months to disappear. Follow-up visits will be scheduled to ensure you are healing properly following your labiaplasty in Monterey.

Labiaplasty Cost

The cost of your labiaplasty in Monterey will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Morwood. The techniques used, the amount of work required, and other factors will go into determining the price of your labiaplasty.
