A lot of people struggle with loose and sagging neck skin when they’ve reached a certain age. You can be physically fit and still have neck skin that’s loose. When it comes to beauty, most people forget to take care of or even think about their neck. The face is the first thing you notice about a person, but after the face, the eyes automatically travel to the neck area, and how it looks matters. Your neck can give away your age, and if you have sagging neck skin, looking youthful is an almost impossible task.
Sagging neck skin can be caused by a number of factors. As you age, your skin loses elasticity because there is a decrease in the collagen that your body naturally produces. This is one of the main reasons behind why your neck skin might be loose. Another reason is if you have lost a drastic amount of weight in a rapid time frame. This can cause loose neck skin because your skin hasn’t had enough time to shrink back down.
If you’re someone battling with the appearance of your neck, then neck lift surgery might be worth considering.
How Does It Work?
The neck lift procedure will last between two and three hours. You will be given some sort of sedation depending on your comfort levels and your surgeon’s recommendations. Your surgeon will have a consultation with you prior to the actual surgery, and during this, he will take you through the procedure step by step. Make sure that you tell your surgeon all of your goals for the procedure. Make sure you have an open mind with realistic expectations.
As all people are different, have different skin types, and have different types of neck issues, the specifics of the surgery will vary depending on the needs of the patient. Some people are dealing with excess fat, others loose skin and wrinkles.
Generally, the surgery works by using liposuction to remove any excess fat that you may have in the neck area. Excess skin will be removed as needed. The underlying drooping platysma muscles will be tightened using internal sutures in order to give you a smoother, more youthful-looking neck area.
Preparing for the Neck Lift
You should be flexible with your eating habits in the weeks leading up to the surgery. Avoid alcohol and sugary and fatty foods. Quit smoking for the weeks leading up to the procedure and for at least a few weeks after the surgery as you recover. You will be able to learn more about the recovery process and how to prepare for it during your consultation at our office.
