A Neck Lift Offers Quality Rejuvenation

Published on January 30, 2019

It’s not just your face that reveals your age – your neck also shows signs of the aging process. As a matter of fact, the neck is one of the first areas of the body to show signs of aging.

This is in part because the neck is often a neglected area of the body when it comes to care and maintenance. In our daily skin-care routine, while we typically focus on keeping our face moisturized and applying sunscreen to it, we forget about our neck.

As a result, the neck is susceptible to the ravages of sun exposure and the aging process. Sagging skin on the neck and jawline are the most common signs of getting older. These issues can also occur due to hereditary factors, stress, and certain other environmental conditions.

Although it is a challenging job to rejuvenate a sagging neck, medical techniques have improved at an advanced rate. A neck lift is a plastic-surgery procedure that helps in removing signs of aging from the patient’s neck and jawline.

The Benefits of a Neck Lift

The general outcomes of a neck lift are as follows:

  • An effervescent youthful appearance
  • Smoother and tighter neck skin without wrinkles and folds
  • A well-defined jawline without jowls
  • A contoured neck without excess fat or drooping muscles

The neck lift is a tried-and-true method of providing a rejuvenated and youthful look. Patients who want to reduce signs of aging but are not yet ready for a full facelift often choose this procedure. A neck lift can be performed at the same time as a facelift or independently.

Who Should Come In for a Neck Lift?

If you want to fight the first signs of aging that affect your appearance, you should come in for a neck lift. If you are experiencing a “turkey-wattle neck,” this procedure is likely the right choice for you.

Generally, people between ages 30 and 70 years come in for neck-lift surgery. People in good health are ideal for this procedure. Non-smokers are preferred, as smoking can cause complications with the body’s healing and recovery process.

What Happens During a Neck Lift?

There are a number of ways to perform a neck lift, and the right method for you will vary depending on the specifics of your case.

The neck lift generally begins in the same way that most surgeries do: with the administration of anesthesia. Anesthesia allows the patient to feel comfortable and free of any pain while the operation is occurring.

Once the chosen type of anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Morwood will create incisions in order to be able to adjust the underlying tissues of the neck. These incisions can be made beneath the chin and behind the ears.

Excess neck fat can be removed with the help of liposuction, and excess skin can be removed using a scalpel. When the platysma muscles are sagging, they can be rejoined with the help of internal sutures.

Once the tissues have been adjusted as needed for a flatter and better-contoured neck, the incisions are carefully closed. This is done with the help of sutures. The incisions are then dressed.
